Huckerby}6.3.34 re BENTLEY CHANGE GEAR LEVER - VIBRATION RATTLE ------------------------------------------ In spite of the latest modifications being fitted we are still suffering from the above. The trouble is now fairly consistent on all chassis and complete cars being turned out. We appear to have cured the vibration on picking up, and the trouble is now a rattle set up by vibration, more manifest on the retard or running light when the engine is doing above 3,000 R.P.M. In discussing this with E/Lid{A. J. Lidsey} this morning we certainly feel that we shall receive customers' complaints in this direction. The rattle is certainly annoying to customers who maintain a good high speed average, and although a cure of the vibration at its source is being considered we feel that some action should be taken whereby we shall be in a position to cure this trouble restrospectively when complaints are received. Already complaints are being received and have to be attended to by our Repair Department on 25 H.P. cars. Similar cures might be applied to Bentley. A suggestion has been made (by Mr Archer) that the reverse stop control mechanism on the lever should be deleted and a spring control stop on the side of the quadrant only is necessary, sufficient to make it obvious to the driver when engaging reverse. Most of the rattle is from this mechanism. EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} [Signature] | ||
