contd :- -2- (6) Actual working stress. The total deflection of a spring used in this manner is 6.4" + 3.3" = 9.7" + .5" for buffer. In other words, the 25% stiffer spring will only be deflected through .825" the range of the standard spring of equivalent rating and its stresses can be increased correspondingly. . standard specification for 25% stiffer spring is 1.4" initial camber. 6.4" deflection .5" cut off rubber buffer. Approximation FRONT SPRINGS. R.{Sir Henry Royce} has agreed that for Sports cars we must drop the front of the car .50". To do this the normal spring camber under load will be 1.00" negative with the same rating, or a free camber of 2.10". The buffer depth will be reduced by .5". The large aluminium packing now fitted under the springs to reduce the number of spring clips should be deleted, only the minimum packing to be fitted to give the necessary pivot lean.
