Hotel l'ouest, Laval, France. 7.4.32. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} from Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} 5-GOSHAWK-11. This car ran 355 miles on the 6th. April making a total since leaving Derby of 4242 miles. Had tyre trouble due to a nail puncture. Car ran very well. The engine seems to get better with running. In reply to the points raised in your various notes:- I should say the silencer is similar to the one you mention as fitted to 4-Goshawk-11 as it is rather free and noisy but not unpleasant. No, flats on valve rocker rollers. Will examine these on Sunday next. Petrol filter. Had no trouble for last 1700 miles. Dirt in system appears to be now cleaned out. Engine seems to have run better since dirt removed. Undershield seems good and keeps engine clean. Will report more fully after examination on Sunday. Axle and gear box are good as regards oil retaining. Oil leaks from top of engine rocker cover joint. On sunday we propose to have a day in to lubricate the chassis and to examine the parts externally also to adjust the brakes. We shall then be able to give you the information you ask for regarding distributor, valve rollers etc. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} On 4-Goshawk-11 we found the silencer to be noisy and that it was not made to drawing. When corrected to drawing the silencer appeared much more satis-factory and we rather felt that 5-Goshawk-11 may have been in a similar faulty condition. As a matter of fact, 5-Goshawk-11,we considered the exhaust very unpleasant and boomed badly. A point we have asked him to investigate in view of his report on 4-Goshawk-11. This again confirmed the fact that the filter system seems general satisfactory. This point was put forward as we felt that it could be improved to advantage on 4-Goshawk-11. | ||
