DRG/EX/ HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} BY E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} ) (At Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence) Copy to BJ. Works. ORIGINAL R4/M17.1.28. REC'D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} & DESPATCHED FROM WW. 20.1.28. X8390 SPORTS PHANTOM - FRONT WING 3rd.(REAR) STAY. Your scheme shews a tube standing out from the frame by a 3 bolt flange. My first impression is that this rear end should be carried by the front end of the step. If this cannot be arranged then it is not necessary for this tube to be fairly stiff vertically? I think it should be a taper tube thus - attached to the frame by 2 bolt flange, and apparently the bolt can be reached inside the frame to hold the head or even to tighten by box spanner. Don't use an extra bolt if it can be avoided, and I think in this case you do not demand any rigidity fore and aft. But you wish for some vertical support and a very definite lateral steady. Try every time to make every piece as simple as ever possible, to make and fit the fewest number of pieces, also self fitting if possible. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
