X1033 Exptl. Dept. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/KW. 23rd November, 1935. T.L. Turner. Esq., The Zenith Carburetter Co.Ltd., 40-44, Newman Street, London, W.1. Dear Mr. Turner, We are pushing ahead with the experimental application of the twin Stromberg Carburetter to our twin six engine. I am still severely handicapped in discussing this carburetter with our Administration, owing to the fact that by not knowing the position with regard to (a) their being manufactured in England by you, (b) Rolls-Royce Ltd. being allowed to manufacture them under licence. I pressed the point that if we were to decide to adopt the duplex carburetter it would be very difficult to get them produced in time unless we accept die castings from America, and it might even be necessary for the first 50 to buy the carburetter complete from America. I would be glad therefore if you could tell me whether (1) if you were allowed to obtain the die castings from America you could produce the rest of the carburetter in England to commence deliveries in the middle of February, (2) in the event of this being impossible, we presume there would be no difficulty in getting deliveries at the rate of about 10 a week from the States. We presume that there will probably be a difference in price between the carburetter if they are partially made over here and if they are made entirely in America, and we should like to know what the figure would be in each case. | ||
