| To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X212 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.2/JH.16.1.36. 10" Borg & Beck Clutches on Bentley. The method of locating and fixing the clutches on the flywheels is to be somewhat different on the production cars from that employed up to the present in the Exptl. Dept. Borg and Beck are to guarantee the balance of the clutch to 1/2 oz inch., taken from the dia. of the cover. This dia. is to be held to .002. The fixing holes in the cover will be drilled undersize by Borg and Beck. We shall jig ream the holes in the cover, locating from the outer dia. for this purpose. The cover is to be fixed by studs, instead of set screws. C.B.2099 is the arrangement drawing showing these features. Will you please ensure that wherever possible experimental clutches are mounted by this method. On flywheels which are already drilled we should replace the set screws by studs.
