| Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/KW. 19th April, 1934. The Light Production Co.Ltd., 60-66, Rochester Row, Westminster, LONDON, S.W.1. For the attention of Mr. Brookes. Dear Sirs, Replying to your letter of March 12th, which was answered in the Writer's absence, we have now done some fairly comprehensive running on the aerolite pistons you have supplied. We have covered approximately a total of 35,000 miles on the road and a good many hours full throttle running on the Test Bed. On one particular set of pistons made in your copper alloy we have done 22,600 miles on the road, the car being driven for most of the time as hard as possible. These pistons have now developed a cold knock. The knock is not very bad, it goes off after a few minutes' running: it does however prejudice the piston, and we should therefore like you to hear it if you can spare the time. We have also taken out of the car which has now done about 7,000 miles the pistons made in R.R.53 alloy, and are holding it so that you may inspect the bedding to see whether you are satisfied that they are working under the most advantageous conditions. These pistons are as yet free from cold knocks. | ||
