GOSHAWK 11. STEERING LEVERS. X.4086. X.4263

I have seen a note enclosing some remarks from Mr. Haldenby regarding the cross steering levers bending. No particulars are given and we should very much like to know in what way the steering levers are bending. Are they for instance, in a horizontal plane and at the root as being the weakest section, or are the balls twisted around indicating that the lever is bending in torsion, or again are they bending in a vertical plane indicating that they do not support the weight of the cross steering tube very well?

You will remember that we criticised F.50862, and Mr. Royce desired that it should not be fitted especially as we could not make out that the bend was necessary. The specimen forging of this lever is definitely and considerably weaker in all directions than our drawing at the point near the small boss and if these levers have been fitted to Mr. Haldenby's car it seems to us quite likely that they will bend in torsion at this point.
