Upon examining for water loss; oil was found swimming on the water in the top tank of the Radiator. There was approximately one quart. We straight away suspected the oil radiator, and upon dismantling same, found that the bottom seam, open end, had cracked practically the whole width. We have sent the Radiator for your inspection, also to have it strengthened. We have made a U pipe, and joined up the two pipes to-gether. We have blanked up the Crankcase side by a plate. This job has taken most of the day to do. We have fitted the increased lever to the front brakes, and a pipe to measure the pressure in the gear box. We wished to satisfy ourselves as to the results with the petrol filter fitted in its original position, with the insulated pot fitted sent out. The atmosphere having warmed up during the morning, and obtaining 60°c at the filter, there was a complete cut-out of the petrol supply. When the supply was eventually obtained, the Car could not be run more than approximately five minutes, before the speed dropped to 50/60 MPH. The result was conclusive, and we shall not persist further with it. We shall persue the ventilating of the bonnet, and cool air supply to the Carburetters. We have now adjusted the Carburetters, so that there is no emission of black smoke from the exhaust under running conditions. We still get it, after standing with a hot engine upon starting up. Our clutch oil leak is still with us. We have made a slight improvement but nothing to write about. We shall lower the Crankcase pressure, making it negative if possible before dismantling the clutch, to try and see what is wrong. ---------------- G.W.H. | ||
