We send herewith Lec. 1914., showing the lever, its shaft, and gate, for the above.

The lever is designed with a press button in the top of the pear shaped handle for operating the reverse catch. We consider that the press button in the position shewn, and with the type and position of lever on which it is used, would not be operated inadvertently, and this design gives us an opportunity of making the reverse catch underneath the gate and housing the spring in a simple manner in the lower portion of the lever.

The gate itself we intended if possible should be an aluminium bronze die casting close plated. We are not certain whether aluminium bronze can be soldered: if not, a nickel silver casting should be used for the gate. The gate is so designed to allow it to be cast in the form of a pot and afterwards divided. We thought that the pot form of casting would also apply if made in a die, the circular die being perhaps less expensive than a die for a single gate. We expect to send you in a day or two the speedometer drive for this box.

The angular position of the gate should be determined with reference to the seating position of the car on which it is used, and as shewn vertically on the drawing is not necessarily correct.

For future guidance we would be glad if you would tell us whether aluminium bronze can be soldered.
