Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter of the 14th instant, reference WKS/CW, our method of testing for ozone is to wind the cable two turns round a metal drum about 3" diameter, the drum being heated internally, so that the surface is maintained at a temperature of 80°C. The conductor of the cable is then connected to an ignition coil discharging across a sparking gap at 10,000 Wolts.

Owing to the High frequency oscillatory nature of the spark discharge, the ozone is generated profusely and we find this extremely valueable and representative of the worst conditions obtaining on our engines.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
