Response to Mr Johnson regarding the testing of broken valve springs and the quantity of spares.

Mr Johnson With reference to minute 3 of the 94th Meeting concerning a special testing rig for valve springs, you ask - "will the heat of engine eliment be present in the test" and also "meantime, how many spares are there on each car on the road". Your first question was considered by the Committee, and it was decided, that owing to the fact that the heat of the engine is not sufficiently great to effect the temper of the springs, we do not propose to include this factor in the tests. With reference to your second question of "number of spares carried on each car on the road" This number is at present one.
