Re Bushes for Road Springs & Shackles.

Mr Nadin informed the Committee that he had received information from India to the effect that the fibre bushes which we fit as standard to these parts, had been proved to be unsatisfactory owing to the varying climatic conditions. Red fibre is particularly hygroscopic, swelling in wet weather and shrinking in the dry. He proposed that we should immediately fit as standard, bronze bushes to all Colonial and Indian cars. He further suggested that we should experiment with hard white metal die castings for this purpose.

Mr Wormald stated that we had such a large experience with regard to the use of white metal in parts which are subjected to high pressures and intermittent blows, that he thought it advisable that we should fit these white metal bushes as standard immediately and carefully test same during the ordinary test of the chassis.

Mr Bailey agreed with Mr Wormald's suggestion.

Mr Barrington was of the opinion that it was inadvisable to make such a part standard without carefully testing such parts on an experimental chassis, and suggested that several sets should be made and experimented with in the ordinary way, say for one month, and
