PHANTOM SPORTS CHASSIS.
Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG29.12.27

This matter was considered this afternoon by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints}, CWB. and C.

In the first place we would like to point out a clerical error in the second paragraph of BJ's memo. BJS/D21.12.27, in referring to the over-heating of the Phantom - this should, of course, be Silver Ghost.

We note contents of your memo. and the questions to be decided would appear to be:-

(1) When we can standardise the radiator with integral shutters on our standard production

(2) Whether the radiator with integral shutters should be used on the Alpine Phantome 10,000 mile Trials car.

As regards (1) we still think we should adhere to the policy of testing for 10,000 miles in France before adopting as a definite standard, and it seems to us that we have already decided that the present standard of radiator should go on the first 100 of "F" series, since there is no particular or urgent demand for it from the Public, and that you will probably have completed your 10,000 mile tests in France in time for us to decide whether to have it standardised on the second part of "F" series, at the same time you will probably be able to recommend the adoption of the turbulent head on the second 100 of "F" series.

It would therefore appear that we need not take any decision upon this point, so far as the second 100 of "F" series is concerned for practically 3 months.

We should like By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} to confirm this latter point.

As regards (2), since we note that the lay-out of the whole Sports chassis has been made to suit this narrower radiator, we agree that you should proceed with the Alpine Phantom chassis with this radiator on it.

You will note from the above that we are assuming that you will be able to introduce the integral shutter radiator at the same time as you introduce the turbulent head on standard production. If, by some mischance, the turbulent head is not found suitable in time for adoption on standard production, what arrangements could you then make for testing the integral shutter
