COPY OF LETTER FROM:- THE CHLORIDE ELECTRICAL STORAGE COMPANY LIMITED. CLIFTON JUNCTION, NR MANCHESTER. Our Reference ECM/EH. 25th January 1924. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. Dear Sirs, Batteries for your 40/50 h.p. Chassis. Referring to your letter reference Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}4/NJ.16124 of the 16th instant, we have heard from Messrs. Peto & Radford that they are now satisfied that any hope of increasing the dimensions fixed for the tray - viz.20¼" long x 6¾" wide x 10" to 10¼" high - must be abandoned. Messrs. Peto & Radford therefore propose that the size of their cells be externally, 3.5/32" wide x 5.15/32" long x 8¼" high. We propose to make our box 3¾" wide x 5.7/16" long x 8.3/32" high, allowing a tolerance of 1/32" in each of the dimensions - which may not be necessary in dagenite, but is desirable with ebonite boxes. On this basis the capacity of our battery would be 79 ampere hours in 10 hours, and the weight assembled, including the electrolyte, would be 100 lbs. Further details are given on the attached specification. In the specification accompanying your letter Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}7/NJ.8124 of the 8th instant, we observe that you specify conical lug terminals for the battery on the 20 h.p. chassis, (specification X4414), whereas in specification X644, paragraph 11, the terminals of the battery for the R.R.40/50 chassis are stipulated to be, heavily lead plated brass nuts making flat surface connections to special terminals provided by you. We trust that you will re-consider your decision on this item from a service point of view. If adhered to it means that the CONTD. | ||
