427? Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 12th March, 1938. N.H. Manning, Esq., Messrs. Brigg Motor Bodies Ltd., Chequers Lane, DAGENHAM. Dear Manning, Many thanks for the details of the cost of the frame now received. You will recollect that during the discussion on the frame we mentioned that we should want to be able to make the dies so that we can increase the length of the frame from the dashboard forward, and also increase the length of the frame in the centre by about 6". An approximate additional figure was quoted verbally for making the dies so that they could be modified at will in these two positions, and we should be glad if you could confirm what the provision for these modifications will cost, and, furthermore, what the cost will be for the additional pieces necessary to put 6" in the centre of the frame. At the moment we do not know if we shall ever add to the length of the frame from the dashboard forwards. You will remember, in addition to these two points, we mentioned the fact that we might wish to go to a still longer wheelbase, and if we did this we should like to have heavy gauge side members. Obviously, if we did, we should like to use as much of the £5,550' worth of tools as was feasible. The greatest length of frame that we are contemplating is 14" longer than the frame for which you have quoted, the whole increase to be inserted in the centre of the cross, and we should like to use .140 material for the side members of this frame. | ||
