IN YOUR REPLY PLEASE QUOTE T.D. 24th February 1940 Messrs Rolls Royce Limited, D E R B Y. Handwritten: Anti freeze AJD Dear Sirs, Your ref: Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Ed. {J. L. Edwards} 7/GH.23.2.40. We have your letter of the 23rd instant and have pleasure in enclosing a couple of copies of a booklet giving particulars of Zero. The table of recommendations is based on a 25% mixture of Zero in water. One part of Zero to three of water makes a mixture proof against freezing-up troubles down to at least 25% of frost. The mixture is really safe at yet lower temperatures but a certain amount of ice forms in the fluid which may give rise to apprehension. However, it should only be found in a soft slushy condition and should not occasion any damage. We are inclined to think that if temperatures round about Zero F. {Mr Friese} are experienced for several days together, the strength to be absolutely safe should be nearer 33 1/3% than 25%. We do not advocate anything weaker than 25% as a car should be proof against freezing wherever it may be in the U.K. We hope this letter will be helpful in conjunction with the Zero Manual. Yours truly, PRICE'S LUBRICANTS LIMITED JWG Brooker Technical Director. Enclosures. 203. | ||
