BPS. C. W. P-Ba. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} x312 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} E/HDY.{William Hardy}3/HP.29.5.36. Phantom III Clutch. With reference to the extra .035 thickness of clutch lining which is proposed by the Experimental Department (HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.27.5.36) to help to remedy the failure of the attachment of the No.6. Ferodo to the disc, Mr Elliott suggests that the extra room should be obtained by packing out the flywheel cover .070 from the flywheel. There will not then be any need to reduce the thickness of the pressure plate which it is thought is the important consideration in view of the fact that we recently had to increase this thickness. The clearances between the spring caps and the adjusting screws and the casing are reduced. The former will still be sufficient but the latter will not be adequate in our opinion when reduced by .070. We suggest that we use a screwdriver slot for the adjusting screw instead of the hexagon head at present instructed. There is just sufficient clearance for the travel of the ball thrust bearing. The above points and a few others are shown on N.Sch.4817 which we send herewith. F.Sch.4817 herewith. E/HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
