Re: Aluminium Tin Alloy Bearings.

Referring to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}13/R.24.6.37, this gives some very useful information.

Whilst I have heard something about the satisfactory results on a soft crankshaft on one of our own cars, I do not know very much about it.

Mr. Devereux, of course, has been worrying us on and off for some years about taking up the licence for this material, but, as you know, we have had to fend him off until we knew more about it and were able to produce satisfactory results ourselves.

I met him at the Pageant on Saturday, but I had not then seen Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s memo.

He told me that Ben Hopkins was very interested and he was very anxious that we should not let someone like him have the material until we were quite certain that we had (as he termed it) 'got all the bugs out of it', as to let Ben Hopkins have it and meet with trouble would condemn it for ever in America.

I think that we might usefully discuss this whole question when I am at Derby next week.

I see that Wn. has told Devereux that we see no objection to letting Ben Hopkins have 100 lbs. of the aluminium tin bearing material, but the point that I am concerned about is, that as I know there have been so many varieties of this material, are we making quite sure that what Devereux lets Ben Hopkins have for trial is the correct one?
