Conclusions on the performance of a gravity-operated suction pipe and oil tank during engine inversion.

below the open end of the swinging suction pipe. When reverting engine to the normal attitude, considerable time elapsed before oil pressure was regained. Results obtained were similar with the oil tank mounted in both positions (a) and (b).

Conclusions.

(1) The gravity operated suction pipe functioned satisfactorily, inasmuch as the weight of oil in the pipe was sufficient to allow it to 'follow' the movement of the oil for any position of the tank during inversion.

(2) Results obtained with the engine rotated through 90° in a clockwise direction, show that the swinging suction pipe is above the level of the oil in the tank, and the time taken to regain oil pressure is certainly no better than when testing under existing standard conditions.
