28th October, 1938.

Dear Mr. Grylls,

With reference to our discussions yesterday, I think you would be interested in the enclosed photograph which was taken in 1926 during some tests on racing tyres.

The speed at which this "puckering" occurred in this particular instance was 120 m.p.h. The reason that the speed appears relatively high as compared with those photographs of the Cadillac equipment is attributable to the fact that the tyre which we tested was of the racing type run at high pressure.

If pressures and casing strength were reduced, this feature would, of course, become apparent at a much lower speed range.

As a matter of interest, you will notice that the test has been carried out on your own type of wheel. Would you please return this photograph after you have examined it, and possibly Mr. Robotham would be interested.

Yours faithfully,
for DUNLOP RUBBER CO., LIMITED.
