S.S. GEARBOX.

We ought to be able to make a considerable improvement in gear changing by exploiting the design of tooth I instructed to overcome the difficulty of meshing the reverse gear, that is to increase the angle of the chamfer on the engaging end of the teeth on the pinion only.

Please put through six sets of 2nd. motion gears in which the angle of the engaging end of the tooth is backed off to twice the standard amount.

Standard on 3rd motion gear.

Twice this amount on gears on 2nd motion.
