To. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} C. Rax/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} (Strikethrough) CHATEAUROUX 3/. 23.2.38. 26.G.VI.- 25/30 HP. 600a (handwritten) BRAKES. Will you please refer to our memo Chateauroux 3/ 22.2.38 and note that we have made the following alterations to the settings stated therein, with a view to trying to stop servo judders. 8) B1. Shortened from 29.437" to 29.062", its shortest possible length without cutting rod. (Drawing states 29.000") 9) B2. Shortened from 31.500" to 31.312" to take play out of slotted link. (Drawing states 32.300") Is this a mistake for 31.300" or does it mean that the swinging arm should be 1" further forward? It is approximately vertical at present and total front rod length is correct to your Drawing. II) R7 lengthened from 28.000" to 28.437" (28.437 handwritten over 28.000) R8 lengthened from 28.187" to 28.250", making rear ropes correct for tension and rear equaliser central. (Drawing states 28.550") No other change has been made except the necessary re-setting of the handbrake slotted link. We find this brings us generally nearer to your figures than we were, except for B2. which differs more than before. These alterations have the effect of giving less useful pedal travel than before, but may bring the rear equaliser and idler L3. into a better working position for dealing with the servo judders. So far it seems to have practically cured the trouble, as we can now only produce a very mild judder with most sudden application. We cannot be certain without further running as the judders come and go in a rather inexplicable manner. ---------------- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M.
