X 295 c. Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} By Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} CK{Mr Clark}3/T. Messrs. S. Smith & Sons, Ltd., 179-185 Great Portland St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}, London, W.1. 4th March 1920. Dear Sirs, Re Chassis Lighting Dynamo. Further to our letter of 26th Feb. we have remedied some of the points mentioned therein in connection with the sample dynamo type 2D which you submitted to us. We now have this machine in running order on the bench and have made certain tests of cutting in point, maximum out-put and heating, although at present we have not taken a normal output curve. As we are not perfectly satisfied with our present standard machine and the matter of cutting in speeds has again cropped up, we consider it would be to our mutual advantage if you could arrange, as suggested by you in your letter of the 9th Jan., for one of your Engineers to come up here to review the whole question with us. We shall be particularly interested to know, apart from the technical side of the discussion, how you would stand regarding deliveries of such a machine. One point mentioned in our letter of the 26th ult. to which we attach enormous importance is the question of the magnetic hum which occurs on this machine at almost all speeds, and to which we referred in our letter of the 30th August last, hoping that this particular phenomenon would have due consideration on your part. When your Engineer comes up we hope he will tell us what you would be able to do to eliminate such noise entirely as that would be one of the first considerations in connection with the adoption of your type of dynamo. Yours faithfully, We shall be pleased to see your Engineer on Tues. or Wed. next. | ||
