Chassis 93 NK.

We dismantled the engine to refit piston rings brought over, and found Nos. 3,4,5 & 6 conrod bearings in a very bad condition. The metal is all broken up. On no occasion during the test of these rods has the engine been short of oil, or the oil pressure dropped. We have had no indication that anything was wrong with these bearings.

We immediately wired to you as follows : -

" Dodd arriving Derby nine pm Wednesday "
" with conrods off 93 NK Metal breaking "
" up - Hancock."

as we considered it the better plan to let you have the rods as soon as possible for examination.

We also found a second leaf broken in the O.S.R. spring, close to rear clip. There are now two leaves broken in this spring. We also found the N.S.F. spring leaf broken. We have changed this, also the rear exhaust box cracked half way round close to No.5 cylinder.

We are examining the car generally, and will give you a detailed report as soon as possible.

We have received your wire, reading : -

" Lytten and Frost leaving this afternoon "
" Bringing new rods - Hives. "

We expect Dodd will return, or we shall be short of a driver.

As regards J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Lytten, we assume that he will fit the conrods and then return, as I understood from you that we could do these jobs ourselves. Will you please confirm this.

G.W.Hancock.
