For the attention of S.H.Grylls, Esq. 18th January, 1939. Dear Sirs, Thank you very much for your letter of the 16th. We do agree that if we are to depart from the 5/8" standard valve hole when we are developing this special valve, it may cause customers a little embarrassment should they require a replacement urgently while on the road. We are therefore instructing the Wheel Factory to produce five wheels with this 5/8" valve hole, and are making arrangements that these should incorporate the new shells. Unfortunately, this may mean that it will be a little longer before we can provide the samples, because it is not yet possible for us to make up wheels with the new shells. We are, however, hopeful that we can at least get an experimental set ready for you without too much delay, but it is not possible at the moment to give you any definite promise. The adoption of the 5/8" hole will mean that the sample tubes will be provided fitted with valves having a metal base, as it is, for the moment at least, not possible to give you a rubber base valve which will have a large enough stem to give a close contd......
