J 1263 Experimental Department January 19th,1937. 'Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems}3/AP. The S.U.Carburetter Co.Ltd., East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, BIRMINGHAM 8. For the attention of Mr.Leslie Kent. Dear Sir, With regard to quietening of petrol pumps. We would be interested to know what progress you are making with the reduced diameter hole in the magnet pole piece, and whether this method shows any prospect of success. We do not expect this method to give us much improvement on pumps that are already fairly quiet, but we hope it will prevent damage to the fibre washer when the pump is assembled, thereby giving a better air cushion between the armature and the pole piece. We should also like to know what limits you have been able to apply for concentricity of the pole piece with regard to the magnet pot, as thiswill have considerable influence on the least diameter hole you will be able to use. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
