? 1116 CRANKSHAFT DAMPERS Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}S/ML. 29.8.40. A.J.Booth,Esq., Messrs Humber Motors Ltd., COVENTRY. Dear Mr. Booth, We have always used Lanchester type crankshaft dampers in our 6 cylinder engines, running in oil i.e. the damper has been located in the timing case. We have recently been trying out your Humber type damper, which runs dry. After 3,500 miles running, a crankshaft period developed, which was eliminated by taking down the damper, cleaning the friction surfaces, etc., etc., It has always been our experience in the past that dampers which are exposed to the elements are not consistent in their loading and in consequence this trouble is bound to develop. We believe we have exactly followed your materials, but maybe, there is some information we did not have and which will overcome the trouble in question. We shall be glad to have any information you can give us on this subject. Yours sincerely, | ||
