-2- Contd. (3) Continuity of primary and secondary circuits shall be tested by applying an A.C. voltage of 205 between the high tension terminal and the frame, with the contact points held apart, when a small 4 volt lamp connected between the low tension terminal and the frame should be lighted. (4) The contact breaker cover shall be replaced, and a test made of the tangential force at lever pin radius necessary to cause advance or retard. In various positions this shall not exceed the limit of 2 lbs, wt. (5) The machine, with the control lever in the central position, shall now receive a preliminary run at 1500 r.p.m. for half a minute with the secondary winding short circuited, and following this a second run of half a minute with the H.T. discharge taking place on the safety spark gap. During the second run it should be observed that the H.T. sparking is confined to the safety gap. (6) Now replace the distributor block and end cover plate and connect up the H.T. terminals to six 3-point spark gaps in sequence, set at 5.5 mm. The magneto with the control lever central shall be run at 1500 r.p.m. for a period of 15 minutes, followed by a second run, now with the control lever fully advanced, at 3000 r.p.m. for a period of 15 minutes. During both these periods no appreciable missing shall occur on the 5.5 mm. gaps in air. The magneto still fully advanced shall be speeded up to 4000 r.p.m. and maintained at this speed for one minute without misfiring on the 5.5 mm. gaps. Contd. | ||
