COPY. S/W EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} LE2/C25.6.30. re. SUBFRAMES. I was discussing the question of subframes with Mr. Carpenter of Hoopers today, and he pointed out that if they build the body on their jig and then, when they come to mount it on the chassis, find it necessary to slew the back of the body round so as to get the wheel arches central between the wheels, it means that their scuttle does not come parallel with out dash. I suggest that it might be an advantage if you could arrange to have a dummy subframe with a right angled scuttle mounted and try this on all chassis in the early stages of construction, thus assuring yourself that if the coachbuilder builds his body carefully on the jig it will be possible for him to mount the body straight on the chassis, and that his scuttle and the dash will come absolutely parallel, and at the same time, the back of the body will be central between the wheels. Perhaps when you are down in London next, I could arrange for you to meet Mr. Carpenter and he would then be able to discuss this matter more fully with you. J.L.E. | ||
