AIR PUMP FOR FOUR WHEEL BRAKE SYSTEM ON 40/50 CHASSIS.

We send you herewith drawing No.Lec 1627 shewing the above. To enable you to put this work in hand we send this drawing in advance but further information will be required with regard to the valve gear and an automatic device for throwing the pump out of action as soon as the pressure in the reservoir has reached the maximum.

You will also require a further drawing shewing the alterations to the crankcase and wheelcase. These have not yet been fully considered.

Lec 1627 shews the fan for cooling the radiator raised 1" to suit the higher position of radiator on the front wheel brake chassis. In doing this we have reverted to the original fan bracket of symmetrical form. Four additional stud bosses will be required on the cylinder casting. The balance weight shewn fixed to the camshaft gear wheel has not been calculated at all. Perhaps you would kindly arrange to have this done, in Derby, balancing all the rotating masses and half the reciprocating masses in the usual manner.

The slipper flywheel is altered somewhat in form but is the same dia. as present standard. The wheelcase has been made to suit it.

A pressure oil feed has been provided for the front camshaft bearing and pump eccentric. The usual oil jet for the timing gears has been displaced by the air pump and a new position will have to be found for it. We shall in due course send you the further information required.
