Bentley Chassis - Piston Scraper Rings. With reference to By/Cgh.{W Clough}4/W.4.6.36. Will you please order the turned rings from the Light Production Co., who supplied the experimental pieces. Incidentally, as you know, we have been having trouble with oil consumption on the Bentley, and we recently found a scraper ring from a complaint case which showed poor beeding. We returned this to Brooks, pointing out that it had proved defective, and he replied that the ring was not of his manufacture as it was not even made in the same way; i.e., this particular ring was heat formed, and the rings on which we have done all our tests were hammered. As the scraper ring is a vital factor in the control of oil consumption, we think that the supplier should not be changed at the discretion of the Purchasing Dept. without submitting the competitive product to the Experimental Dept. for test, particularly as in this case we believe the price of the two articles was identical.
