AND BENTLEY CHASSIS. ------------------------- As you know, we receive many complaints of rattles from the change speed lever and for some time we have been unable to effect a cure. The trouble has now been designed out on Production by means of the isolated change speed lever, but this is too expensive and difficult to apply to an existing car. We have therefore had to look round for some simple means of overcoming the trouble. The rattles complained of are:- 1. A chatter at pick-up speeds on both 20/25 HP. and Bentley chassis. This is caused by the lever chattering against the slot in the gate. 2. A rattle from the push rod, which can be cured fairly easily by pressure on the rod. 3. A high pitched chatter between the lever and the gate at 3300 r.p.m. on the Bentley only. 4. A high pitched buzz at 3300 r.p.m. on the Bentley, which appears to be due to natural resonance of the lever. We can cure items 1 and 3 by applying pressure to the end of the change gear shaft so as to hold the lever against the slot in the gate when on third and fourth gear. We attach to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}'s and E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}'s copy of this memo blue prints R.2555 and R.2560, showing this scheme applied to the Bentley and the 20/25 HP. chassis respectively. It consists merely of a -contd- | ||
