X4027 To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ.21.9.32. PEREGRINE. GENERAL POSITION. The first chassis has run approximately 4000 miles on the road. The general performance of the car is very good - we anticipate it will be better than the 25 HP. car we are now selling. On Brooklands with a saloon body the car has lapped at 73 M.P.H. - the present 25 HP. laps at approximately 70 M.P.H. We have had two Peregrine engines, one in the car and one on the test bed. On the test bed we have run approximately 50 hours. The engine has been run up to a top speed of 5000 R.P.M. It has also been run supercharged and we have obtained a maximum power of 110 HP. We have a Peregrine chassis on the bumper test. We have bumped the chassis for 50 hours on the front without any major failures. We are now bumping the rear and have completed 23 hours without trouble. The gearbox and axle have been tested on the road wheel dynamometer under full torque conditions. The engine and the chassis have been punished sufficiently to bring out most of the faults. We have received designs and modifications to cover most of them and we expect these to effect a complete cure. The car has been tested with a complete coachbuilt saloon body not with a test kit. Peregrine No.2 and 3 should be on the road in three weeks time and will have most of the improvements fitted. So far all of our running has been done with temporary S.U. carburetters. The perfecting of the R.R. semi expanding carburetter will take some time. We expect to have a certain amount of trouble eliminating all the taps and noises when we get nearer the final car. We have still to find a satisfactory solution for eliminating some oil leaks. The extra oil arrangement for the cylinders will need reconsidering. The ignition is ginving more trouble than the 25 HP. We are expecting on the Peregrine to start this car off with improvements which have been desired for some time. (1) Adjustable shock dampers. (Possibly automatic). (2) Voltage control dynamo. | ||
