To WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X1775 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG22.7.25. RE. RUNNING EXPERIMENTAL CARS. Y180 BJ28/H21.7.25. With reference to cars for Rg{Mr Rowledge}'s use - see CJ8/D24.8.21 of which you had a copy. About the same time I wrote to CJ. for his permission to run experimental cars. He returned the memo with 'Agreed' on it. This memo. however has been mislaid. I will send it along to you when it has been found. The Officials who wish to run cars during the holidays, subject to your approval, will be :- RG.{Mr Rowledge} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} In future, no experimental cars will be sent out for Officials personal use unless your permission has been obtained. In order to be able to carry out this work, we should like your instructions as regards :- (1) In case you are absent or away from the Works, what procedure should be taken. (2) We frequently get requests from either the Transport, RG{Mr Rowledge}, or HY{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} that they want to go on a special journey for the Company or to meet someone visiting the Works. In the past we have always loaned them a car, if there is one available. Are we in order in doing this or will they have to get your permission? (3) There are occasions when carrying out certain experiments on cars, I have let my assistants run a car for a weekend. It would have been profitable to the Company to have paid them for doing it, but in view of the fact that they get a certain amount of pleasure of being able to take out their friends, they have not booked any time. I should be sorry for this privilege to be stopped. We should, of course, get your permission when these instances occur. (4) Do you wish RG.{Mr Rowledge} to get your written permission each time he wishes to use a car? (5) Do you wish me to get your permission each time I wish to use an experimental car?
