V3441 BY c. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} /Thn11/H15.8.23. re. 40/50 Chassis Front Axles. You will no doubt remember that some time ago Paris complained that they were having a number of cases of front axles being bent backwards (at the wings). We discussed this matter with you and with Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and it was decided before any action was taken that it would be necessary for Paris to send us a sample of an axle which had been bent back, as our experience in the Experimental and the Repair Department did not confirm the report from Paris. Paris have now returned a front axle from chassis 7-BW, Prince Henri de Ligne, and we are having this sent up to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} for examination. Paris have also sent us an invoice for 751 francs.90 cts. {C. Trot Salt - Carburation} for replacing this front axle. To refresh your memory on the matter we would point out that Paris gave as the reason for the front axle bending back is that the hole which is drilled near the spring seat for the reception of the shock absorber bracket considerably weakens the section at this point.
