I would confirm our conversation this
morning that Messrs. Woodhead's figures show a difference
of no less than 55/6d. per car for "Goshawk" Axle Springs,
made:-

(a). In accordance with their proposals i.e. the
Woodhead solid lug plate, registered design
rebound clip, and taper centre hole in main
and second leaves, and edges of main plate
ground, otherwise black finish - sample set
of which was originally submitted on January
26th./22 against our Order No. 6842
and passed to the Experimental Shop.
A further four Sets have been delivered in the
last few days against our Order No.7530
and are now lying in the Receiving Stores.

(b). Axle Springs made black finish exact to our
drawings E.50881/6 but ground on the edges of
the main plate, including the Woodhead solid
lug plates and registered design rebound clip.

Springs to the latter scheme are the more expensive of
the two.

I understand from By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} you are nervous
that on the Woodhead type Springs. i.e. Type A. {Mr Adams} will be liable
to squeak and would suggest the sample sets now on the
ground be tested out exhaustively seeing the marked difference
there is in the cost.
