We are shortly taking up the experimental investigation of the characteristics of vibrator control of the charging output of chassis dynamo. You will remember that in our EFC5/AT26.2.19, we mentioned that Mr. Young of the B.T.H. Co., had told us of a combined vibrator regulator and cut-out, in which the whole business of control could be got very neatly into a small space, the series winding put on for the cut-out operating the series compounding coil for the vibrator regulator.

We attach to your copy of this note a small diagram of this arrangement.

We would like to suggest that an R-R design of combined regulator and cutout on these lines be got out if you think the combination of the two is fundmentally correct. Otherwise, that a design for vibrator regulator and separate cut-out be produced. If, we, as the Experimental Dept., were provided with all the mechanical details of such a design, we could have one or two of these made up and then could change about and experiment with various shunt and series windings and varying amounts of external non-temperature co-efficient resistance, etc, until we found the best operation electrically.
