Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid{A. J. Lidsey}2/AD25.8.31. RIVETLESS BONNETS. With reference to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M20.8.31. we are producing a rivetless bonnet to N.Sch.3294 and hope soon to be in a position to show it to you. We are not attempting to make the alternative design to N.Sch.3304 as it is thought that the side hinge will fail. We do not think that N.Sch.3294 will be welcomed on a production job from the works point of view. All standard bonnets are fitted independently both as regards the fit between the bonnet, dashboard and radiator and the position of the side hinges. The design of N.Sch.3294, owing to the fact that the aluminium is rolled over before fitting the hinge, does not allow of the side hinges being easily fitted to suit each individual chassis. The delay in making this bonnet has been due to it being necessary for a considerable amount of tool work to be made with which to produce the hinge sheaths. The bonnet when completed will incorporate flip flap shutters, pivoted in the centre (as suggested by R.{Sir Henry Royce}) and spaced symmetrically along the bonnet sides (as suggested by FN). The shutters will be fixed with 4 countersunk rivets only, .104 aluminium being used for the bonnet. With regard to louvred bonnet sides we will make up experimentally a pair of sides in .104 material without using stiffeners. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Lid.{A. J. Lidsey} | ||
