GREEN LAMP UNIT & SWITCHBOX.

In order that we may be able to operate and observe the operation of the new green lamp switch unit incorporated in the new S.S. distribution board, we have in one case adapted a standard type switchbox interior to an S.S. type exterior (casing and tail). The connection of the green lamp unit on the distribution box is made to terminal B. This gives an operable arrangement, i.e. it does not allow the green lamp to remain on when charge is switched off, neither does it give any possibility of reversing the dynamo. All standard switchboxes are arranged with the delay of the armature break over the field break.

Although referred to as a standard switchbox interior, it is not quite standard in regard to the magneto switching, which is arranged not to switch off the magneto in the first position of the switch. This is done as usual by the auxiliary switch, which also in this case switches off the magneto in the M & C position.

On the S.S. arrangement there has been a little confusion due to the fact that the magneto is not always switched off when the magneto auxiliary switch says "off".

We cannot at the moment observe the functioning of the green lamp switch on any of the S.S. chassis which have not this arrangement, but in all these cases this operating coil is disconnected and the switch put out of action.
