RECEIVED 11 SEP 1919 With reference to the pistons with rings low down, it was intended that the piston above the ring should fit the cylinder as closely as possible. The object of the low position of the ring was that they were protected from the heat, and not so liable to get gummed in the grooves, would better keep the oil from working into the combustion chamber, would hold the gas better, and would wear in their grooves less.
