6003 Experimental Department Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.5/AP. July 12th 1937 Messrs S.Smith & Sons Ltd., Cricklewood Works, LONDON N.W.2. For the attention of Mr.Dorer. Dear Sirs, We are returning to you two Bentley thermometers, one whose flexible capillary fractured at the junction with the bulb - after examination will you please repair this and return it to us. The other is an old standard one to which we should like you to fit a flexible capillary as shown on DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1360. We have examined the thermometer with special dial supplied to us by yourselves and have two criticisms to make- (1) That the red line corresponding to 100°C. is not long enough and conspicuous enough. (2) That the division corresponding to 100°C. is thicker than the other divisions - it should be exactly the same as the single degree divisions. Will you please make us up a second sample with these modifications, otherwise to D.75953. Will you also supply us with a thermometer and oil gauge unit to D.75953. Yours faithfully, ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/MS W/- FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
