6153 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}20/JH. 11th. August, 1939. Messrs. Ferranti Ltd., Moston, Manchester.10. For the attention of Mr. O.A.Hall. Dear Sirs, How is your new single unit radio set progressing? We shall be installing a radio set in one of our cars during the next few weeks, and it is important that we obtain for this purpose the best and most up-to-date set on the market. Has your new set push button tuning? We feel that this type of tuning has caught the eye of the public, especially in the case of car radio where, generally, the operator has very little time for fiddling with the radio tuning unit. We would like to install a concealed roof aerial to one of our cars, unfortunately it has an all-metal body. We realise that this aerial should consist of a metal plate or metallised fabric of about 3 sq.ft. in area, also that there should be a minimum distance of about 3 inches between aerial and metal body, in order to get effective height. Can you offer suggestions, or information as to american practice when installing this type of aerial? Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
