Subject of Report:—
The Cambridge Portable Vibrograph - Demonstrated at our Works 13.9.38.
General Conclusion:— The report is summarized under the following headings :-
(1) Theoretical considerations and requirements for this type of apparatus.
(2) The general principles and construction of the Cambridge instrument in respect of (1).
(3) A report on the demonstration and use of this vibrograph, and a comparison of its features with those of the Askania pattern at present employed here.
(4) Note on the tests performed during the demonstration.
(a) Aero Test.
(b) Car test-beds.
(5) Conclusions, including some suggestions for modifying the vibrograph to make it more suitable for our work.
(6) Finally our recommendations, weighed from the foregoing, are given with respect to the purchase of this instrument. It is suggested that this matter be shelved at least until further consideration is given to obtaining one or more examples of the R.A.E. seismic vibrograph, which is more attractive to us.
A report based on Sections (1) - (5) is being forwarded to Messrs. Cambridge Instrument Co. Ltd.
Swdl{Len H. Swindell} - Did we get any information from Wraith crank-case tests?
