Y3429 We have determined the moment of inertia of the EAC. and 40/50 HP. Flywheels. In each case the flywheel was complete with clutch. The "Bifilar Suspension" method was used in which the flywheel was supported by two parallel wires. The flywheel was made to oscillate about its centre of gravity (through a small angle) and in a horizontal plane. The time for 30 oscillations was taken and the time for one complete swing determined. The time of one swing is given by :- t = 2π √(4ℓk²/gd²) where l = length of the supporting wires, d = distance between the supporting wires and k is the radius of gyration. From the time of swing we determined the value of K² for each flywheel and by multiplying by the mass of the flywheel determined the value of "I". The results attached were obtained :- contd :- | ||
