Re Packard 8

Dear Mr. Hives:

Your report to R.{Sir Henry Royce} of December 3rd does not mention hypoid rear axle gears.

We are therefore wondering whether you actually have the latest model Packard, which has:-

(1) Hypoid gears.

(2) True "Hotchkiss" drive, i.e. the triangular torque arm has been abandoned. (This was an earlier change.)

(3) Internal brakes (Bendix three shoe type front and rear). The original Perrot type modified in detail by the Bendix Company.

(4) Brake operation by rods entirely without equalization, instead of by cable.

(5) Ricardo cylinder heads.

(6) Increased power from the engine by modified intake and valve lift (we believe).

(7) No fuelizer - ordinary exhaust heated manifold.

(8) Skinner rectifier drawing oil from sump instead of cylinder walls.

(9) Axle ratio closer to our own, 4.33 to 1. Your note gives 4.6 which we believe is the older ratio.

(10) Aluminum pistons.
