By pushing the top of the spare wheel from the rear, the side members move upwards .040" at a point level with the rear of the body (this point is .5" forward of the rear petrol tank stay bolt). By applying a sudden load at the same point on the wheel (i.e. by jerking suddenly with the palms of the hands) the upward movement becomes .095", this is an approximation of the conditions we should expect to occur when travelling over a bumpy road. By standing on the rear cross member (equivalent to adding 160 lbs. at this point) the side members move downwards .020".
The figures given are the relative movement between the bottom of the body and the top of the frame side channels.
