"INDIA" PLUS F.W.B. AUTHORISATION SHEET NO.11.

I am informed by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} that R.{Sir Henry Royce} expects to receive on India plus F.W.B. a recent design of brake Operating Mechanism which is lighter, and certainly better design than the original material supplied.

The proposal means that we shall make a certain amount of scrap, and there will certainly be a delay, as we have to sink dies and make tools to produce the parts required for the new proposal.

The parts affected are as follows:-

G.51801 replaced by G.52298.
New piece G.52299.
" " G.52300.
" " G.52301.
" " G.52302.
G.51805 replaced by G.52303.
G.51809 replaced by G.52304.
G.51810 replaced by G.52305.
G.51813/4 " " G.52306/7.
G.51811/2 " " G.52308/9.

There is certainly an advantage by utilisation of the improved design in giving R.{Sir Henry Royce} what he is very strongly pressing for, but to do so will involve some delay, and therefore I would suggest that for the moment we should fit up the first 100 cars with the original mechanism, and at that point arrange to bring in the new design. By this arrangement we should not incur any delay.
