DUNLOP RUBBER CO.,LTD. TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: "DUNLOPS, PHONE, BIRMINGHAM" TELEPHONE: ERDINGTON 2121 (P.B.X) EXTENSION No. 395. YOUR REF: OUR REF: HEP/HM.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}46. FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM 24 Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., DERBY. For the attention of S.H.Grylls, Esq. 4th January, 1939. Dear Sirs, ORDER NO. 76298. Following our letter of the 30th ult. from the wheel works in connection with five wheels supplied against the above order, we should be very interested if you would keep us informed on the behaviour of the special light weight rims with which they are fitted. It was explained at the time this rim was under discussion that it was designed to replace the 3.00x16 section as a broadbase rim fitment for the 5.25-16 special tyre, which has a carrying capacity of 15 cwts per axle, and its application to the 6.00 or 6.50 section tyre, with load carrying capacities of 20 and 22½ cwts. per axle, respectively, was not then contemplated. Owing to the cost of such rims and the difficulties experienced in manufacture, it is not at present proposed to perpetuate this method of construction, unless it is definitely specified, and, knowing your feelings on the question of weight of wheels and rims, we shall naturally be very interested in your comments. Yours faithfully, For DUNLOP RUBBER CO., LTD. H.E.Price Manager, Car Manfrs. Divn. | ||
