COPY OY-6 Dec. 16, 1929. Cc- Mr. Ross Mr. A.J. Underwood, Standards Department, Society of Automotive Engineers, Inc., 29 West 39th St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}, New York, N.Y. My dear Mr. Underwood: Am sorry that my recent return from England made it impossible to attend your meeting of Dec. 4th. In connection with English cars imported into this country, I am anxious to give the English Co. a personal picture of the probable future developments of the 7" drop center tire in America. May I therefore ask you for your personal opinion in answer to the following questions: - 1. Is there any prospect of permanency in the 20 x 7" tire, or will the adoption of 19 x 7" by Packard, Cadillac, etc. make the 20" wheel obsolete within the next few years? 2. At what date do you anticipate that widespread supplies of several makes of American 7" drop-center tires will become available, such that these might be used by a car like the R.R.? 3. Are these likely to be 20 x 7 or 19 x 7 or both? 4. Will these tires fit the English D.C. rim which is only 3-3/4" between flanges against the American 4"? 5. Has the trouble of cutting of the tube by the bead in American D.C. tires been overcome? 6. Is the rolling of a successful D.C. wire wheel rim by Cleveland Welding or Firestone an accomplished fact? Have these rims rolled edges or plain flanges? With kind regards. Yours very truly, ROLLS ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. Maurice Olley M | ||
